The first Music, Media, and Technology Conference will be held at UW-Madison on Saturday, Nov. 4. Isthmus is serving as a sponsor of the event, a day-long hip-hop showcase that features workshops and a music competition targeting urban youth.
One goal of the conference is to highlight community building through media and technology. Another is to emphasize the positive elements of hip-hop as a way to engage youth into career development and higher education. The event encourages youth to musically express themselves in issues that matter to them, while mastering technology to express those feelings.
The conference is divided into two parts:
- An exhibition with displays, demonstrations, panel workshops and discussions in the UW-Madison Red Gym. This runs from 10 a.m. through 6 p.m. on Saturday and admission is free.
- The "Feel the Beat" music producer competition will be held from 7 p.m. through 11 p.m. at the Rathskeller in the UW Memorial Union. Winners will be selected by a panel of celebrity judges, including the acclaimed producer 9th Wonder. Admission is free for this too.
More information about the organizers of the event is available from Streets of Gold Productions.
