The sounds of summer come alive on the north side this week as the Madison Mallards play their season opener at the Duck Pond. The calendar also includes: a screening of the documentary We Are Wisconsin; and, live music from Michael Cooney, The Antlers, Rachel Platten, Tech N9ne, Ben Daniels Band, and Sleeping in the Aviary with Caroline Smith & the Good Night Sleeps.

Brink Lounge, 7 pm
Armed with jaw harps, penny whistles and two different types of banjo, Cooney has been described as a one-man folk festival and an encyclopedia of story and song. Sample his catalog of cowboy tunes, ancient ballads and sea shanties at this concert hosted by the Madison Folk Music Society. With indelible Madison folkies Lou & Peter Berryman, who got help from Cooney in the 1980s when they started touring the folk circuit.

This extroverted songbird's 2011 release, Be Here, teems with Caribbean rhythms and sparkling pop melodies. The album's most prominent single, "1,000 Ships," has made a splash on Billboard's Adult Top 40 chart and as the intro to the ABC Family series Jane By Design. With Madi Diaz and Cait Shanahan.

This rapper's rapid-fire rhymes earned him his stage name, which is a reference to a TEC-9 semiautomatic handgun. This show will likely feature songs from his new EP, Klusterfuk, and his 2011 studio albums, Welcome to Strangeland and All 6's and 7's. With Machine Gun Kelly, Krizz Kaliko, Prozak, Mayday and Stevie Stone.
