One responder to the question "Favorite Activist" wrote in: "I have to choose one? Everybody!" That was the kind of big-hug sentiment that this category evoked across the board. Your favorite club deejay, Nick Nice, also had a strong showing in the activist category. Top vote-getter Ben Masel, who died from lung cancer in April, spent nearly 40 years in Madison working on legalization of marijuana, and free speech and right-to-assembly issues. And not surprisingly, considering how close the election was, both of Madison's mayors from over the past 12 months made the list of "Favorite Public Employee."
