Madison-based young adult writer Sheth has written her first picture book, and like her other work, it addresses the culture of her native India. Rupa, the first-generation Indian-American narrator of My Dadima, asks her grandmother about why she wears a sari instead of Western-style clothes. Her grandma shows Ruba just what a beautiful, versatile garment the sari is (and here Sheth is helped by the illustrations by Yoshiko Jaeggi). This gentle tale will introduce young people to different cultures' different modes of dress in a way that makes them seem magical. Also, with tips on how to wrap a sari, this could be a springboard for an afternoon of dress-up.
