From indie movies to unemployment benefits, there was no shortage of bitching on the forum this week. One thing's for sure -- thank God for that five dollar dinner special at Big Red's Steaks.
Funny and absurd

Looks like he's going the contrition route.
Good thing. Think what a terrible thing it would be for Our Youth if they learned that you could smoke up in your leisure time, and still push yourself to achieve really great things.
It would negate years of scary public service announcements.

Every year we get one of these - the dread 'Indie Comedy.'
They always - to some greater or lesser degree - suck.
Casting my mind back, we've had (in no chronological order):
My Big Fat Greek Wedding Little Miss Sunshine Juno Garden State Waitress (or whatever the fuck that movie was with all the pies)
What they all had in common is that only the extremely shallow and/or lame could have mistaken them for anything other than mildly diverting - no matter how much DeVotchka they had on the soundtrack.
Consequently - any time someone hypes a flick as 'the next Little Miss Sunshine' (or whatev) I just dig out my copy of Raising Arizona - to remind myself that some movies are funny, original and have some edge to them.
My first law of media literacy - hype is always wrong.
That is the same old Dick!

Former VP Dick Cheney, in full candor after stepping down from office, tearfully admitted his obsession with interrogation tactics that some call torture is primarily driven by his sexual...
Nah, just kidding. He said we all just don't understand how awesome his administration was, how many times he saved our asses, and that naive Obama is going to bring our doom (this quote was hyperlinked to "bring our doom:" http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0209/18390.html) with his foolish clinging to campaign rhetoric regarding diplomacy.
I liked the description of his office. I imagined what it would be like to be a high schooler working at the copy shop, only to face a snarling Dick Cheney some morning. Later, said high schooler pulls a juvenile prank of retribution on that old jerk from the office across the hall, not realizing who Cheney was.
Smart and sharp

yesterday ch 15 in madison was apparently interviewing a knob, who said the following:
"Det. Brian Drumm works directly with doctors and pharmacists to recognize drug-seeking behavior, for instance, people who pay cash for a prescription."
u mean like poor people without insurance?
fuck the police. and shame on ch 15. fuck all those bitching motherfuckers who are always trying to start shit.
wouldn't it work easiest for it being the boobs, er i mean the cops that are robbing the poison shops because they know which ones have what alarm that rings down at the station on which door or whatever? probably explains why they are focussing on poor people without insurance instead of who smashed the door...who knows how many chronic pain patients or chemists or doctors they bother each month just hoping they will give them a box of morphine ampoules or a refillable script for a shitload of norcos or a 1000-count bottle of oxy right off the lorry just to get them to leave them alone? don't even have to pay taxes on that...i suppose they even have an exception code all worked out for the new duplication/persecution narcotic registry some legislators and others whine about subjecting the state to -- guess who probably has lots of stock in some incompetent quisling software company or outsource outfit stashed away for the deluge!

Contact your state senator or your state representative. If they're any good, they will pass along your contact information to the Department of Workforce Development, and you should get action pretty quick (a few days, probably not more than a week).
You should also continue, on your end, to try to contact a live body directly (but do not try to visit the UI office - only employees are allowed inside, and I believe the Capitol Police has jurisdiction over that office).
