gathering together
Today's image is titled gathering together was photographed by Monique J. Isham.
While the smaller bodies of water around Madison and throughout Dane County have long been frozen over owing to the early onset of winter cold, the largest lake has remained open, at least for a little while longer. That's been good enough to make it a wayside rest stop for traveling avians.
"The water fowl are gathering together in Lake Mendota to make their migrations," writes Isham in the caption of this photo, shot nearly a week ago on the shores of Tenney Park. "Most of these are swans, Canada geese and cooks. There are probably some of the local mallards in there also, but they'll more than likely stick around and not migrate."
