Snowblowing the Square
Today's image is titled "Snowblowing the Square" and was photographed by Kristian Knutsen.
This photo shows a city snow blower clearing the sidewalks around the Capitol Square on Tuesday night. The temperature dropped to nearly -10 F overnight, with wind chills going as low as the -30s. Conditions are so cold that the Madison Metropolitan School District has closed all schools today, as have many others throughout the region. Conditions should remain cold through the day. As noted in a statement from the National Weather Service noting dangerous wind chills: "West winds will continue to gradually subside late this morning and early this afternoon. As a result... wind chills will modify into the teens below zero across much of southern Wisconsin..."
Heat wave! Actually, the mercury will continue its wild swings, as high temperatures this weekend are expected to approach the freezing point.
