I'm really glad there was finally a study (albeit unscientific) on this:
First, most people can't taste the difference between bottled and tap water; second, those who can taste the difference express a clear preference for the tap water - a 4 to 1 preference, in fact, estimates Dreckmann.
How much does a bottle of water cost? $1? How much does a glass of tap water cost?
Just last week the utility mailed pamphlets to all Madison residents touting the "value" of Madison's tap water, comparing its price per gallon - about 1/5 of a penny - to other oft-consumed liquids like milk, gasoline and, of course, bottled water.
Unless you're Paul Bunyan, you're glass of water is much less than a gallon. You do the math.
