Arts Beat: Overture Center loses chief financial officer
on (2) Comments

The Overture Center's chief financial officer, Chris Hunjas, is leaving, becoming the third employee in the art center's finance department to leave in the past year.

Hunjas says she left in part because of family reasons and also because she got another job. Her departure has nothing to do with changes in the works for Overture, she says. The city of Madison is currently negotiating taking over ownership of Overture and turning its management over to a non-profit.

"Overture is a gem in the community. And there are lots of opportunities here," Hunjas says. She said proposed changes in Overture are positive. "I don't believe all those details have been finalized yet, but it's on the right track."

Robert Chappell, a spokesman for Overture, confirms that two other employees in the center's finance department have also left in the past year, but calls it "coincidence."

"It's not been a sudden purging of finance," he says.

Overture president and CEO Tom Carto emailed this statement to Isthmus: "We thank Chris for her three and a half years of service and wish her well in the future. We remain confident that Overture staff and board leadership, along with city leadership and community stakeholders, will guide Overture through a smooth transition to ensure a bright future for the arts in Madison."
