After last week's elections, Madison didn't want to relax and reminisce. It needed more action, pronto. Enter the Wisconsin Book Festival, a frenzy of readings, signings, discussions and other events dedicated to the printed word -- and the giddy feelings a good book can generate.

Less than 24 hours after the polls closed, locals began casting votes of a different kind. They voted for their favorite books by buying extra copies for friends. They lobbied for authors they admire by filling the seats at their events. They supported reading and writing in every imaginable way, by rifling through bins of marked-down memoirs, scribbling haikus on the backs of bookmarks, and sharing their musings online.

Here are highlights from two of their favorite online-sharing tools: Twitter and Instagram.
