The Wisconsin Center for the Book is announcing today that it has bestowed Madison poet Heather Swan Rosenthal's poem "Interstice" with top honors in its 2007 Poetry BookMark Contest. The poem and her photo will be published on 1,000 bookmarks destined for distribution at book festivals and other events statewide.
Rosenthal's work has appeared in journals including The Cream City Review and The Comstock Review, and has been recognized with an August Derleth Award. The Edge of Damage, a chapbook, has been slated for publication by Parallel Press, an imprint of the UW-Madison Libraries.
This year's contest attracted entries from almost 40 Wisconsin poets. Judges for the contest included James Gollata, Mary L. Grow, Tom Montag and Margot Peters. Formal presentation of the award is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the UW-Madison Memorial Library in conjunction with the Wisconsin Book Festival. Rosenthal is slated to read from her work during the event, as part of the center's Booklovers' Dialogue.
