Pulitzer-winning New Orleans Times-Picayune columnist Chris Rose, author of 1 Dead in Attic, appeared at the Wisconsin Book Festival on Friday to read from his book and state his case for resurrecting the Crescent City. The short video follows below.
More than a year after hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated New Orleans, the UW-Madison School of Journalism alumnus remains a forceful evangelist for his adopted home. His devotion to the Crescent City is evident in this clip from his Friday appearance at the Wisconsin Book Festival: Introducing a DVD compilation of images captured during and after the disaster by British photojournalist Charlie Varley and set to evocative music, Rose gives no indication that his devotion to New Orleans has waned. Indeed, despite the all but systemic failures of government at the federal, state and parish levels, his resolve has, if anything, only hardened. And he suggests that it is time for the rest of the nation to step up and fulfill its civic obligations to the Gulf Coast.
