MadVelocity
An emerging online resource for local cyclists and multisport enthusiasts named MadVelocity is showing early potential. Developed over the winter by local bike enthusiast Ken Livesey, the beta debuted in March and has been slowly gathering momentum. In an introductory email, however, he admits, "I am a bit over my head."
He is, therefore, soliciting feedback and contributions from visitors to the site, and looking for assistance with its administration.
"I created the site to bring the Madison cycling community together," his introduction continues. "I would like to focus on non-profit events, anything that impacts cycling in the Madison area, and events created by local residents." He disavows any agenda or bias, and envisions a user-driven site.
The site describes itself as the sort of resource Livesey was looking for when he started participating in group rides and attending WISport events. Frustrated by his inability to find one universal resource in a sea of sites devoted to individual cycling groups and organizations, he set out to create his own.
Among its early features: a calendar of southern-Wisconsin cycling and related events, training rides and meetings; downloadable maps, routes and training tools; forums on topics ranging from advocacy, commuting and cyclocross to ride reports and technical tips; a wealth of links to local cycling clubs, organizations and other resources; a platform for posting bike-related photos and streaming audio/video content; polls; road-race news; FAQs; and RSS feeds.
At present, the volume of content remains somewhat limited but appears to be building. It's not hard to foresee MadVelocity as a first stop for anyone seeking an entrance into the local cycling scene.
