|CITIZEN DAVE: Thoughts and ideas about city building from Madison's former mayor|
Citizen Dave: Time to cool the bike rage already
Call it bike rage. The simmering conflict between some cyclists and some drivers seems to have boiled over a bit this summer. No less a revered source than USA Today published a long story (actually, it's a book by McPaper standards) about the issue. >MoreCitizen Dave: So long, Vince O'Hern! Long live Isthmus!
When I was a twenty-something kid in Madison, Thursdays were a big day. My coworkers and I would take turns running down to the state Capitol's coffee shop, not to get another cup of the heartburn-inducing brew, but to see if that week's new Isthmus was in yet. >MoreCitizen Dave: Hobby Lobby decision is among the last gasps of conservatives
This is not the most wonderful time of the year. As late June rolls around each year, when the U.S. Supreme Court wraps up its latest decisions, I brace for whatever damage Antonin Scalia and his conservative majority will do to our country. They didn't disappoint this year. >MoreCitizen Dave: Soccer and the culture wars
I watched the United States and Portugal played to a tie in the World Cup. Well, to be precise, I saw the last fifteen minutes or so of the match, which is the most soccer I have ever watched in one sitting. >MoreCitizen Dave: Scott Resnick is right -- it's time to move on

But wherever you come down on that debate, you ain't seen nothin' yet. >MoreCitizen Dave: Republicans are digging themselves a deeper hole on same-sex marriage
There's an old axiom in politics that goes like this: "If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging." For many years, the Republican Party has taken shameless political advantage of intolerance toward gay Americans, steadfastly working to enshrine discrimination against them in our laws and even in our state constitutions, including here in Wisconsin. >MoreCitizen Dave: June 6 and the moral arc of history
Some days you're proud to be an American. Today, June 6, is one of those days. >MoreCitizen Dave: Life without my smart phone
I forgot my phone the other day. Left it on the kitchen counter. I spent the entire day without it. Miraculously, I was able to function and to survive. >MoreCitizen Dave: Is it time for the Idaho stop?
Okay, admit it. When was the last time you approached a quiet intersection with a stop sign, looked every way, saw no traffic... and still came to a complete stop on your bicycle? Can't ever remember doing that? Well, I'll be honest. Neither can I >More
