Here are a couple more interesting encounters from the world of fading notoriety.

So, I get on a bus heading home last Friday evening. I’m the only person on the bus, and the driver turns around.

"Hey, are you the guy on the radio?"

For a moment I thought maybe he was joking. I'm sometimes on Jonathan and Kitty in the Morning on 105.5 Triple M. But then he said, "You're not that guy? You look familiar. I gave a ride to a guy one night who was a radio guy. You look familiar, though. Sorry."

"Yeah," I said. "That happens a lot. I look like a lot of people on the radio."

A couple days earlier, I was trying to find a meeting at a neighborhood center.

Woman: "You look familiar."

Me: "Well, yeah, I was..." (I was just about to give her my explanation about once having done the weather on Channel 3, although I guess I also could have been a guy on the radio.)

Woman: "Oh, yes. I voted for you. Twice."

Me: "Not in the same election I hope."

Woman: "Well, no."

Me: "I mean but it would have helped if you had voted twice last time."

Woman: "No, of course, I only voted once."

Me: "Of course. I wouldn’t have wanted you to vote more than once."

We parted awkwardly.
