Frank Productions released additional details on Monday morning about the Freakfest 2007 Halloween party on State Street set for this Saturday, Oct. 28.
With less than a week remaining before the event, the concert promotions company is working with the city of Madison and Associated Students of Madison at the UW to iron out the final planning. The information announced today includes the stage MCs, a pair of DJs performing at the party, the competitors in the Battle of the Bands contest on Wednesday, and the categories for the costume contest, now called the "Parade of Freaks."
The first performers on the stages at the Capitol Square and the Buckeye Lot will be DJs Mike Carlson and Papi Love, respectively. They will be spinning from the start of the event at 7:30 p.m. for about 30 to 45 minutes before the first bands take the stage, as well as between subsequent groups until the concert ends at 1:30 a.m. The MCs, meanwhile, are a quartet of on-air hosts from Clear Channel Madison's Z104 and WIBA FM, as well as ASM.
The Battle of the Bands winner will be selected following a show at the Majestic Theatre on Wednesday, Oct. 24. Six competitors were ultimately selected by ASM members from a total of more than 40 submissions. The competing bands are: the hip-hop emcee Ra Fury; Submarine Race; Fedora; the Verona-born acoustic rock quintet Pearl Snap Saturday; 20 Something; and the Brutal D's. The winner will be the headlining act at the Peace Park stage, which is sponsored by Isthmus.
Isthmus is also sponsoring the 'Parade of Freaks" costume contest, which will likewise be held on the stage in Peace Park. There are five categories: Most Humorous, Scariest, Most Creative, Best Look-Alike and Best Overall, with the winners determined by members of ASM. Members of the student group's "Freak Patrol" will be sifting and winnowing to recruit potential competitors from the start of the party. If you want to compete in the costume contest, speak to one of these recruiters or sign up at the stage. Prizes will be donated by local businesses, the Madison Downtown Business Improvement District and Isthmus.

Dave Maynard from Frank Productions says that they are "crossing the t's and dotting the i's" in continuing meetings with the city through the rest of this week. The biggest issue that remains is the forecast for Saturday. "We have contingency plans in place," says Maynard, "but the event is ultimately rain or shine, though we're hoping to have decent weather. It's pretty early to start really determining what the forecast is going to be. We all know that Wisconsin weather changes at the drop of a hat."
