Phenology is the study of the timing of biological events over the course of a year, like the budding of the first leaves in spring or when birds migrate. The Pheasant Branch calendar is packed with natural info for the Madison area -- what to look for each month, from birds and blooms to bugs and butterflies. Photos of the Pheasant Branch conservation lands from local photographers are also featured monthly.
The cost is $10, which will go toward Pheasant Branch Conservancy/environmental activities. Calendars are available at area businesses (The Bruce Company, University Bookstore, the Wisconsin Historical Society Museum, the UW Arboretum Bookstore, REI, Prairie Cafe and Bakery and Wild Birds Unlimited). It was a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed summer cottage on an island in Lake Mendota. That's right, it's not an urban legend; it's the truth. And there are photos.
