Today's image is titled smoke and mirrors and was photographed by Kandy Watson.
This photo shows the grand opening party for the Circus Whirled art show at Cha Cha Beauty Parlor & Haircut Lounge on Friday, February 1. Scheduled to coincide with this month's "First Friday" at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, this show focused on "celebrating the 'darker' side of carnival life" in anticipation of this week's Mardi Gras.
The opening was headlined by Lowbrow artist Mitch O'Connell, who attended the opening with featured contributors Nicolette Biscamp and "Kettle". Other participants in the show include Patrick Fatica, James Brunner, Jessica Hobdell, Jared Deal, Nik Scarlett, and others.
Circus Whirled was organized under the banner of the Anxiety Gallery, which thanked the featured artists, show co-sponsor Capitol City Tattoo and participating artist JonBoy, and fans turning out for the opening. It also published several photos in an Anxiety Gallery collection on Flickr. Watson likewise shot several other pictures from the opening, collected in a photo gallery titled "It's the Mitch O'Connell Show!"
The exhibition runs at the salon just off the Capitol Square through Thursday, March 6.
