The Kansas-based pickers have an irreverent punk streak that gives their bluegrass and updated twang a little sumpin' extra.

Tuesday 6.10

Music Theatre Idol
West Side Club, 7 pm
Music Theatre of Madison hosts this American Idol-style competition, in which audience members vote on 10 singers who've survived the early rounds. Beware of pitchiness, dawg.

Wednesday 6.11

Will Dailey and Keaton Simons
High Noon Saloon, 6:30 pm

Society for the Cognitive Study of the Moving Image
4070 UW Vilas Hall, 8 pm. Also Thursday, June 12, 8 pm
The society's scholars explore the mind's response to movies. The public can attend two lectures as part of an annual conference: Prof. Uri Hasson on Wednesday and Prof. Dan Levin (known for his gorilla-suit experiments) on Thursday.

Stephen Marley
Barrymore Theatre, 8 pm
A charismatic, Grammy-winning reggae artist in his own right, Bob Marley's son does his father's legacy proud by moving the music forward with elements of hip-hop and contemporary soul. Gully Bank Soundsystem opens.

The John Philip Sousa-style band begins its 40th summer of rousing concerts. The ensemble is filled with local professionals adept at waltzes, polkas and patriotic tunes.
