The two-game series between the Madison Mallards and the Thunder Bay Border Cats at the beginning of the week was a tough one for the hometown team. The team left the bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth inning and ended with a one-run loss on Monday, followed on Tuesday with another extra-innings loss against the Canadian team, their fourth in a row at the Duck Pond. This photo shows a sunset scene from the first of the two games, one in an extensive , with the Mallards starting out hot before the recent losing streak. They're currently in the middle of the pack in the South Division of the league, following a big win on Wednesday night against the Waterloo Bucks, overpowering the Iowa team's 12 runs with 14 of their own in a third consecutive game at the Duck Pond. This wasn't an official home game, though.
The recent rainstorms that have left Wisconsin awash in floodwaters have been even worse to the west. As Hopefully the storms will hold off tonight, though, and through the next week-and-a-half, which will fill out what has become an unprecedented home stand at the Duck Pond. Including the four rescheduled games against Waterloo, the Mallards are playing 14 consecutive games in Madison, their longest of the season. In fact, by the end of next weekend, the team will have played fully half of their home games this season, not counting any playoffs.
