Today's image is titled Patrick and Linda -- Rehearsing for Orton and was photographed by Nataraj Hauser.
Madison will bid one of its first farewells to the season this weekend at the Orton Park Festival, the third of four community celebrations every summer on the near east side. Returning for a tenth time this year is Cycropia Aerial Dance, a local troupe that delivers an empyreal performance before a rapt audience under the branches of the oak trees towering over what was once the city's first cemetery.
"A perennial favorite, Cycropia's show never fails to wow the crowd with graceful and powerful aerial dances on unusual apparatus suspended from branches," declares Hauser in the caption to the shot. "Much like the Concerts on the Square, prime blanket sitting spaces are staked out early, sometimes before noon. Delight yourself and your children and check out the show." He has taken hundreds of photos of aerial dance rehearsals and performances in Madison, including dozens of the troupe's recent preparations under the Orton Park oaks.
The schedule for the Orton Park Festival is overflowing with local favorites and welcome visitors providing live music entertainment, but nighttime at the party belongs to the Lepidoptera. Cycropia will perform on both Friday and Saturday nights this weekend, weather-pending, with 8:45 p.m. marking the time when the lights will dim and the show will begin under the boughs.
