Today's image is titled Feast Day of St. Francis and was photographed by Michael Leland.
Animal lovers congregated on Saturday at Grace Episcopal Church on the Capitol Square to mark this year's Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, the early 13th Century troubadour and soldier turned cleric and subsequent founder of the Order of Friars Minor that has since borne his name. Beloved by Catholics and associated denominations as the patron saint of animals and the environment, his feast day is held each year on October 4, when pets are invited to church to receive a special blessing, oftentimes from a Franciscan friar.
