Madison bids farewell to 2008 this week with New Year's Eve -- and morning -- celebrations of all flavors and intensity. More than two dozen are detailed here, with a focus on the myriad bands and DJs marking the parties lively all night long.

Monday 12.29

The God Damns
High Noon Saloon, 9 pm
Tonight the rockin' local all-star four-piece whips us some support for their album, Thriller, which hit stores -- and CD Baby -- earlier this year. Full Vinyl Treatment opens.

Tuesday 12.30

Wednesday 12.31

Swinging on a Star
Jade Monkey Lounge, 4 pm
DJs Jes-One and Astroglide perform for free at this cocktail-lubricated event.

U.S. Bank Eve
6 pm onward
The annual party offers family-friendly fun at six locations. Monona Terrace features music by Primitive Culture, juggling by Truly Remarkable Loon, magic from Rick Wilcox and an inflatable gym. Contemplate the cosmos at the UW Space Place (2300 S. Park St.); check out crafts and the Holiday Train display at Olbrich Botanical Gardens. The Madison Children's Museum caters to younger kids with hands-on activities and magic, and the Wisconsin Historical Museum has craft projects. Meanwhile, at U.S. Bank on the Square, there's balloon animals, wagon rides around the Square, the music of Ken Lonnquist and the Kenland Band and, at 10:05, fireworks over the Capitol.

Westside Andy and Mel Ford Band
Brink Lounge, 7 pm
Andy and Mel dig into their muscular blues, R&B and more recent rockabilly material. Pianist Dave Stoler kicks off the night.

Lou and Peter Berryman
Goodman Atwood Community Center, 8 pm
Those who prefer goofy folk music with a heavy dose of accordion on New Year's Eve (you know who you are) can check out the Berrymans' annual fundraiser for the community center.

Annex, 8 pm
The local practitioners of a psychedelic-tinged brand of experimental rock are joined by Weapons of Mass Defunktion, Chafo and Lucas Cates.

Frequency, 8 pm
Frequency owner Darwin Sampson makes an onstage appearance with his post-punk band Ladybeard, while the Treats and Cribshitter sweeten things up with some poppy indie rock. Also playing: Descendaints, Kill Junior.

Natty Nation, Rob Dz
Orpheum Theater, 8 pm
The local reggae mainstay joins with the local hip-hop favorite and his signature blend of jazz, rap, funk, R&B and gospel. Also playing: Adam Isaac and the People, Day To Day.

Super Tuesday
The Bean, 8 pm
From Bon Jovi to Kelly Clarkson to Mellencamp, Super Tuesday covers the kinds of acts that heartland audiences can't get enough of.

DJ Corey Lee
Cardinal Bar, 8 pm
DJs Corey Lee, Von Stoll, Papi Love and Ebiz trade off on disco, funk, house, electronic and hip-hop sets for your dancing pleasure.

Mike Schneider
Essen Haus, 8:30 pm
The Milwaukee artist is a ton of pure polka fun. And so is the Essen Haus' collection of Deutsche brews on tap.

Cafe Montmartre, 8:30 pm
So what if you spent last New Year's Eve watching Soul Train into the wee hours of the morning? This year you can do it again -- or you can get your butt out of the house and shake it to the live disco of VO5. (Practice to their song "Wonder Woman," the free download in this week's MadTracks feature.) When he's not bartending, DJ Bubba Grande will spin records between sets.

Dear August
Talula, 9 pm
The indie folkies accompany the feasting at Talula, the interesting new east-side restaurant, which is pink.

DJs Christian Rokk and Stickee Fingazz
Inferno, 9 pm
The club DJs with the best names in town are ringing in the New Year at the Inferno, along with a huge lineup of other record-spinners, beatmakers and mashup masters. Also playing: DJs Natural Selector, Landology, Max Ohm, D'Angelo, Dissolvent, Wyatt Agard, Hypnoassassin, Foundation, Juliette.

DJs at the Dane
Dance to DJs Mike Carlson and Kid Cut Up at the downtown Great Dane (9 pm); DJs Amos, Mike Carlson and Vilas Park Sniper at Hilldale (10 pm); and DJ Bill at Fitchburg (9 pm).

Club Tavern, 9 pm
The FM hits just keep on coming as Lube make their way through a crowd-pleasing set of hard rock, alternative and contemporary country covers.

Mama Digdown's Brass Band, Baghdad Scuba Review
Majestic Theatre, 9 pm
Six-piece jam band Baghdad Scuba Review joins the local brass juggernaut Mama Digdown's Brass Band to help you get down, get funky and get tipsy. Also playing: Steez, DJ Swerve.

Pupy Costello & His Big City Honky Tonk
Crystal Corner Bar, 9 pm
Expect the heroes of the Grand Ole Opry to get their due as Pupy's fun-loving crew celebrate the release of a new CD, Drinking Beer Songs.

The Von Ehrics
High Noon Saloon, 9 pm
Dallas-based cowpunk trio the Von Ehrics joins Minneapolis New Wave outfit Ouija Radio and punked-out local favorites Zebras and Screamin' Cyn Cyn and The Pons for a hard-hitting and over-the-top night of music. Also playing: Brainerd, The Hussy, DJ Jake Shut.

Harmonious Wail
Concourse Hotel Bar, 9:30 pm
As the excellent local practitioners of Django Reinhardt's gypsy jazz sound ring in a new year, they'll also celebrate the outgoing year, which saw the release of their CD Resist Temptation, declared the year's best Madison jazz album by our own Rich Albertoni.

Badger Bowl, 9:30 pm
Remember Def Leppard? In the world of the tribute band Photograph, the '80s rockers rock forever.

WORT Benefit with Blackstar Reggae Band
Alchemy Cafe, 9:30 pm
Celebrate the New Year while raising money for Madison's independent radio station to the tunes of Blackstar Reggae Band, Jamaica native Prince Mantee's 27-year-old music project. Also playing: International Connection, DJ Sam Rock

Aultimate Ozzy
Scatz Sports Bar, 10 pm
Run off the rails with this Ozzy Osbourne tribute band. But will no one start a Kelly Osbourne tribute band?

DJ Reeves
Club 5, 10 pm
Queer folks and their allies can ring in '09 at the palatial nightspot south of the Beltline. Also: DJ Tony Ritschard.

David Hecht & Primitive Culture
JT Whitney's, 10:00 pm
The funk/groove practitioners should have this reliable bierstube in a lather well before midnight.

Rock Star Gomeroke
Brocach Irish Pub, 10 pm
The Gomers provide the live karaoke backing, you provide the vocals.

The Shabelles, The Takebacks
Mickey's Tavern, 10 pm
The Takebacks and their dubbed-out post-punk team up with old-school powerpop five-piece The Shabelles to toast 2009 on Willy Street.

Warm Wet Rag
Mr. Roberts, 10 pm
Ween fans, be of good cheer, because the Madison act Warm Wet Rag pays tribute to the snarky rockers. Also: Elf Lettuce.

Yid Vicious
Restaurant Magnus, 10 pm
The local klezmer experts hold down the fort at the chic downtown bote.

Thursday 1.1

Tony Castañeda Latin Jazz Sextet
