Today's image is titled Madison Public Library's striking new Sequoya branch was photographed by Peter Patau.
A glowing fireplace keeps the winter chill out of the hearth room of the new Sequoya branch of the Madison Public Library on the near west side, which opened late last year as a showcase facility for the system.
"I dropped in this afternoon and used the occasion to get a new library card and also to look around the space, notable for its exposed structural components and green design elements," noted Patau after visiting yesterday. Along with adding to the accolades for the building and its design, particularly a greywater recycling system, and commenting on the increasing use of libraries in the face of economic woes, he also reports on a timely grant from the Madison Public Library Foundation that allows the branch to remain open from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday afternoons through April.
