City crews were busy removing snow from the streets in front of the Overture Center on Wednesday night, despite temperatures on the verge of dipping below 0F. They were getting the jump on a operation to clear as much winter accumulation as possible from arterial streets across downtown.
"We need to clear snow in order to widen the traffic lanes and free up parking spaces," said George Dreckman of the Madison Streets Division in an announcement warning of delays. "This operation involves many vehicles and will tie up traffic." This outdoor work will continue through Thursday and Friday amidst persistent subzero temperatures and dangerous wind chills, the coldest conditions the city has seen in about a decade.
