Despite complaints of a lack of activity on the forum, Forons were all about taking a stand, extolling new products from beer or techno gadgets, and advocating for everything from baby bunnies to self-sacrifice in the name of Jesus.
Funny and absurd
And the Oscar for strangest metaphors goes to…blunt!
TORPEDO DESTROYS ASYLUM!!!

Without question and entirely beyond discussion, Sierra Nevada's new Tornado American IPA easily displaces Hopalicious as the liquid grain most likely to be found in my storage tank. Tornado is rifuckindiculously drinkable and leaves my mouth light, enjoyable and pleasing to others, rather than the stenchtrench left in the wake of Hopalicious.
Potent? At 7.2% it's butcher and brainier than anything else out there and still miraculously able to retain a silken panther palate.
And it creates such an intelligent drunk!
I was incredibly Hasselhoffed last night but never yelled "woo" once.
We don't all care about animal welfare.

I used to laugh at the TV ad where the elephant took a big dump at the end. They've since edited that out.
Oh, and cruelty to animals is bad.
Nuke the whales.
And that goes double for the temp in the cube next to you.

Blame it on the economy. People are more fearful of posting at work because when it comes time to cut an employee who are they going to ax? The snarky dude who spends 6 hours a day posting on the dailypage forum or the do-good brown-noser who is always pointing out how busy they are to the boss?
Personally, I gave up Lent for Lent.

Sadly true, for the most part. There are some halfhearted attempts at parties by local establishments, but nothing to approximate the true festival. Irrrrrregardless, I still had gumbo and jambalaya tonight at the Fitchburg Dane. Tasty, but sadly without awesome parades and kick-ass live music.
Hm. Well, I'm planning to avoid killing, stealing, adulterating (well, unless someone makes an offer I can't refuse), worshipping a false idol (I don't even watch the show), coveting my neighbor's wife (boy howdy am I avoiding her), ass (ditto), or pretty much anything of my neighbors' (except maybe that lawn flamingo, but that's for a warmer night), and I will most certainly not work on Sundays.
No such promises on taking the Lord's name in vain (waaay too much fun).
Does that count?
Smart and sharp

Kind of amusing to hear a Catholic getting all nostalgic for the Reformation.
On a related topic, if the DPF had existed in 17th-century Baghdad or Persia, one can easily imagine a Muslim version of Ned Flanders gleefully posting links to reports of all the atrocities committed by the "Christian peace-lovers" in their little Thirty Years' War. Funny how Catholics and Protestants, all theoretically followers of Jesus Christ, managed to kill off half the male population of Germany, while spreading famine, plague, and misery:
Muslims and Christians both claim that their religions are peaceful, but each faith's followers have soaked their nations in blood many times over. Hinduism and Buddhism aren't any better (see Sri Lanka today and the atrocities of the Japanese armies in China during WWII).
Of course, atheists have also slaughtered millions (see the USSR, China, the Khmer Rouge, etc.) as have shamanists (Genghis Khan). Even the Quakers have to atone for Richard Nixon.
Bottom line -- no religious belief nor unbelief has clean hands. This is one issue where everybody needs to get off their high horses.
Not everyone's judging -- they just don't understand.

I'm vegetarian. It's nice to know there are other vegetarians around. So far, all the "vegetarians" I've met face-to-face in Madison are the ones who eat chicken and fish.
Lulu's and Shish Cafe have good vegetarian options. So do Sa-Bai Thong, The Flattop Grill, and Chautara. It would be really nice if there were a completely vegetarian restaurant in town.
Because carpooling never caught on…

God forbid that Madison would make the bus system more rider friendly. If Madison Metro would be more rider friendly then ridership would go up and no need to raise fares and reduce routes. There are major cities that cover more ground with their bus service than Mad. Metro does and is cheaper.
Security is another issue with MM. MM should do what other cities do, if someone causes a problem on the bus, just throw them off. After this happens a few times, trouble makers with get the message that disruptive and bad behavior will not be tolerated.
Employers should also consider giving employees bus passes and this would also increase ridership.
Increasing fares and decreasing service will only make things worse--this has happened before.
I am all for commuter rail--I think it is great, but Madison can't get a simple bus system right, how can Madison make commuter rail work?

As of a couple weeks ago the G1 is fully operational in Madison. Other than learning to manage the major drain all my uses place on the battery I am really loving it. To handle the battery issue I use a little rechargeable battery backup for when I want to sit and play with it for hours and when I just need it to stay live for phone calls I turn off the radios. It's not as easy as an iPhone but I think it's more versatile. I'd recommend it to those who like to tinker with their techno toys but not yet for those who just want something to be easy straight out of the box.
Would somebody call the intern?

-Don't Bon Iver and Neil Gaiman both write/create in remote WI workspaces? Maybe a profile of one or both? If I've missed pieces like these, I apologize.
-A juicy piece on Bielema, like really juicy. You know the dirt is there, go find it.
-An in-depth investigation of racial attitudes in Madison.
-A series on WI road trips (or bike trips) from Madison. Places to visit, including where to stay and eat, and attractions (New Glarus, Taliesin, the Dells/Devil's Lake, etc.).
A little less whining about the death of the newspaper industry. We are aware, and it sucks, but its getting to be ubiquitous and a bit tiresome.
