Despite the recent AIG debacle and a controversial stimulus package, many forons lightened the mood this week with the perks of speed dating, outlandish advertising and the promise of bike-worthy weather.
Funny and absurd
Because Rush Limbaugh's always been one p.c. son-of-a-gun.

Whoa, wait a minute.
When did my fellow conservatives become the "politically-correct", whimpering, mewling pussies?
I'm not sure I understand it, but I like it.

It's the Charles Schwab commercials for me.
SNL parody would have the standard cartoon asshole talking about their investments (like I could give a shit) when out of nowhere a sniper's bullet would rip off half their jaw, like that guy Viggo Mortenson shot in A History of Violence.
Cartoon asshole would not miss a beat, going on and on about their investment bullshit.
Speed dating: a bigger shovel for all you gold diggers.

I tried it once when I was 27. It was brutal and a real test of endurance.
Good for women, you can ask all the "important" questions (what do you do?, how much do you make? how big is your house? what kind of car do you drive? why are you still single? etc.) that you can dole out in 3-5 minutes, and there's no obligation to give out your number. For guys on the other hand, there's more of a level playing field at your average bar, only bonus of speed-dating is that you already know all the women are single & looking.
I think somebody failed Marketing 101.
My band is playing who bloody cares?
Post by dutch Thu Mar 26, 2009 2:08 am
This is my advert for my band playing at a club no one will attend at a date you all will be busy doing something else. Only the other bands and their pretending to not be bored girlfriends will be their watching me play for nothing or next to nothing. Two other bands whose names will soon be forgotten will be playing as well in a vain attempt to attract a crowd which will not attend. The bands will play with passion and verve hoping in vain that even though no one is there a writer from a local rag will actually be there,( even though NO ONE IN ANY OF THE BANDS IS A FRIEND OF SAID WRITER) and write a review of the band. Of course only the writer from the aforementioned rag and the members of the bands are under the illusion this review will actually help get people to their gig. But hey a musician can hope can't they?
In case Morton needs a new Creative Team.

Actually, I picture a takeoff on the Morton Salt packaging.
Picture a scantily clad Lot's Wife casting a glance back at Sodom over her left shoulder. Perhaps some young Sodomite could be nipping at her bikini briefs in place of the little dog.
"When it rains it pours ... for 40 days and 40 nights."
Smart and sharp
That stimulus bubble's bound to bust.

A reasonable, well-thought response. I don't disagree with anything, but I feel like there are some grey areas in your argument too.
On grey areas - I suppose it might be dangerous to insist that everything is a grey area. For some things, there may be black and white answers. Granted, this is probably the minority of "things", but I would try to stay away from absolutism in my irresoluteness.
I agree that we are probably better off, and definitely have no choice, to live and operate in a mixed economy with various competing ideological memes.
On the financial sector: I think that "simple rules" would have prevented much of the current disaster, not the overbearing and hasty regulations that we're about to experience. The main objective of the current plan (either donkey or elephant) is to get the economy growing again; to rekindle the cancerous swelling of all material things, but do so in a way that enables us to bleed off a little fluid when the whole thing is about to burst again.
We should make a drastic transformation toward a system that doesn't require growth to survive. One simple rule to help accommodate this would be the abolition of fractional reserve lending - you wanna talk about a revolution in the banking system? It would be tough to leverage when it's "one dollar in, one dollar out"
On "history" in general - do you think that any of the 20th century experiments in a given ideology (free market capitalism, communism, fascism...) were given time to reach a stable equilibrium? Especially with free-market capitalism - the model demands an occasional bloodletting, but we refuse to let that happen, and just revert to statism instead. We don't really have any proper controls for these 'experiments', but I don't think we have any hope of designing controls either. Dismal science indeed.
Long post, I am incapable of twitter-izing my thoughts.
That must be why I had two retainers and a headgear.
Re: Fluoridation Ineffective & Harmful, studies show
Post by peripat Sat Mar 21, 2009 5:36 pm
I think we should investigate the premise that the anti fluoridation movement is funded by dentists. Because many children have no cavities for their entire childhood, the industry has been forced to push them all into orthodonture to keep the income flowing in---but if they can eliminate the fluoride they can go back to charging for fillings a few times a year
Clearly, we're crossing our fingers for great weather.

I'd like to pick up a NiteRider MiNewt. Nice bright LED, long run-time, easy attach battery pack & lamp, and rechargeable via standard plug-in or via your computer's USB port. Last I checked the east side Trek store had it in stock.
And he didn't even have to sit on hold with India.

One of my 360s (a 2006 arcade) went all RRoD on me 2 months ago.
Since I don't care about things like the M$ "warranty", don't want to lose 3 weeks sending it into them, and don't want to take the chance of getting a refurbed unit of unknown origins I looked for alternatives to getting it serviced.
After doing a ton of research there was only one place I found that I could trust to do the job, and funny enough they were advertising and selling their service on Ebay. http://tinyurl.com/8u7mar
I sent my 360 in on a Friday, and it arrived back on my doorstep the following Friday. Works great.
