Change has come to America. Or maybe just better newspeak has arrived.
"NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams offered this brief update on Wednesday's newscast: "We learned today there's no more Global War on Terror -- at least it's been renamed by the Obama administration. The Pentagon will now call the ongoing U.S. military effort the 'Overseas Contingency Operation.'"
OCO. OCO???
Overseas: like a long way away, not global, as in some shit might hit the fan right here in the good old USA.
Contingency: Big word. Covers pretty much every thing, including our asses!
Operation: Oh, that's nice. Sounds like simple surgery to me.
War is peace.

Wow thank god someone has made a Chuckie Cheese for adults I was starting to get weird looks there when I went in without any kids to play ski ball. Why would you want a local restaurant to look like a national chain?

I want to get rid of those pesky street lamps from my neighborhood.
All they do is attract bugs. And I'm always packing heat, so I don't worry about some punk jumping out of the bushes.
We could just make them copy dictionary pages or clean chalkboard erasers all night.

Did you skip teenage years? Teenagers are up to no good at any hour of the day. The only thing that can tame them is to be harnessed to a plow and made to dig a furrow. Any time you get teenagers off the street and into the convent/rectory is for the good of the whole. Better yet to fatigue them in some mundane task like crushing grapes, picking rocks or diagramming Latin declensions. Not that they are mutually exclusive.
Smart and sharp
It might be better to jus trade monopoly money.

Are you seriously evaluating this issue based on whether a certain Republican representative is supporting it? That's not a very objective way to evaluate new ideas. I can't tell if you are kidding.
I think that a global fiat currency would be disastrous for both rich and poor nations (but likely greatly beneficial to the banking class). The current dollar system is supported by confidence alone, not by any material backing - do we want to scale up this kind of system so that the entire world is dependent on it? I dunno... there's something about eggs and baskets.... nah, fuck it, I'm turning in my gold for paper UNo's.
He probably thinks condoms cause AIDS too.

Ya just gotta love this guy.
First he dissed Madison before he ever set foot in town, then he accepted a board position with the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (formerly the School of the Americas - an organization that has trained armies who have killed Catholic nuns and priests in Central America), he forced his priests (many of whom disagreed with him) to play his pre-recorded manifesto supporting Wisconsin's anti-gay marriage amendment during Sunday services prior to the election, he fired an openly gay music director at a church in Verona, and now he fired this woman (a full-time pastoral associate in a Beloit parish) for writing a thesis paper at a Catholic college six years ago (before his reign) that supported the idea of women as priests. Oh yeah, she supported Obama too (even though she is against abortion -- in Bizarro Bishop World voting for Obama = love of abortion).
Hey, it's his church and he can do what he wants (he claims he is just sticking to the script from Rome), but isn't it interesting that nothing like this chain of events ever happened when any of Madison's previous Bishops ran the show? It's not like there haven't been enough bad things going on in the Catholic church lately to piss people off and make them (and their financial support) leave in droves. I know more former Catholics than practicing ones.
The irony is that while Morlino (and other Catholic zealots) align themselves with the "Religious Right", the Protestant backbone of the "Religious Right" (the Bob Jones University crowd) openly despises Catholics.
You reap what you sow, I guess.
Maybe they just want a steady stream of F-150's.
Auto Companies: What do Republicans want?

I see Wall Street is reacting badly to Obama's insistance that GM do more restructuring (meaning job cuts) before seeking any more bailout money. Oh ya, and the President of GM resigned as part of the pressure.
Apparently Wall Street just wants the Federal Gov to keep giving money unconditionally to the auto companies. But how smart is that for the long term?
I thought what Republicans wanted was to squeeze the auto companies to break the unions. I would think republicans would be pretty satisfied with Obama's action today. Maybe "investors" and "republicans" are totally different groups.
Does anyone smell a libel suit?

I'm not defending Mike's actions; I don't know what they were! But I've occasionally worked with Mike over the years and in my experience, he has always conducted himself in a very conscientious, honest and proper manner.
He is being investigated. That's a fact, but not really Sunday headline news, is it? While the allegations may be serious - and perhaps he will be found culpable - why not show consideration for the reputation of this long-time public servant until the investigation is completed?
To me, this is yellow journalism - plain and simple... And I find that disappointing.
Apparently pork barrel spending is party specific.

I have no problem with these people protesting against government waste. I disagree with a lot of the way our taxes are being spent (i.e. handed out to financial corporations with NO oversight) and feel all administrations should be held more accountable.
What I do find laughable is this was their biggest protest in the last 20 years?
Where the f*ck have they been for the past 8 years when Bush and his administration was running up the largest deficit in the history of the world?
So it's OK for republicans to waste money, but god-forbid when the democrats come into power they sure better not waste ANY? Especially when at least some of it is going to help American people.
Those protestors should just cut the crap and make some signs that say "IT'S OK TO SPEND MY TAXES FIGHTING WARS IN FOREIGN LANDS."
