With the exception of a planning for a jaunt to Atlantic City, the forum stuck to the local scene this week. While some bitched about city policy, gun laws and sky-high insurance, others found solace in pizza, Bloody Marys, and the promise of an 80 degree day.

AC is a dump and it can be dangerous. Do not wander too far off the boardwalk. If you want to stray, take a cab to the Borgata across town. They have several nice restaurants including Bobby Flay's steak house which is OK but expensive. Otherwise, there's absolutely no reason to leave the boardwalk area.
South of AC there are several beach towns that run together: Ventnor, Margate and Longport. Further south and across the bridge are Ocean City (dry town), Strathmere and Sea Isle City, Avalon, Stone Harbor and Wildwood. These would all be hopping three months from now, but are dead in April.
Don't forget all those damn game day cheers.

Proper kegger stand form, the best place to wash away a Saturday morning hangover is with a bloody mary at the Essen Haus and the pinnacle of the Wisconsin experience is Friday night fish fry at the Avenue. (hopefully these count as 'must' knowledge for a Madisonian)

All it took was a couple threats and a phone call. Then I went outside and assumed superhero stance. Finally, the sun came crawling out with its tail between its flaming legs.

If the Mayor doesn't want people on committees he can just not reappoint them - why is he using some non-existent 10-year rule to make excuses? That is what I don't understand.
Carol Weidel, my campaign treasurer was just informed she won't be reappointed as the labor rep on the Ethics Board - she's served 9 years - and again, the Mayor used the non-existent 10 year rule as the excuse for not re-appointing her.
Meanwhile, at least one appointment on his most recent list is being appointed for more than 10 years and he hasn't applied the rule to at least 30 people currently on committees.
Why cite a non-existent rule that is contradictory with the law we passed? Why not just not reappoint because he doesn't have to?
That's one roundabout way to reach a point.

So I am sure all are aware of what Mrs. Wasilla had to say about abortion this weekend. If not here's a link:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/04/19/AR2009041901997.html
Please, please run her in 2012. I can't get enough of this hypocrisy to mock.
Look here Anti-choice people, your Savior Sarah made the choice. In her faith filled blood she stopped and contemplated an abortion. She "chose" to continue with her pregnancy. In her Amerika she wouldn't even have that thought cross her mind, it would be illegal.
This reminds me of another sin. When a man/women looks lustfully at another they have committed adultery. I would say she killed her baby with this thought. Why does she hate Jesus? j/k. The point I am putting forth is that she MADE A CHOICE! Let this issue die and stop trying to interfere with medical decisions of women!
The economy blows: Throwback to the barter system.
Re: Farmer's Insurance 40% homeowner rate hike?

I don't own a house, but I have my auto and renters insurance with American Family. I've been with the same agent for at least 10 years. They were going to raise my rates about $8 a month earlier this year. After I emailed my agent expressing my displeasure with the rate increase and my willingness to shop around she found some "discounts" and I'm now actually paying about $6 a month less (***correction--I just pulled out my old bill to compare with my current and I'm actually paying $12 a month less) then what I was paying before they told me they were going to raise my rates. I would suggest shopping around to compare rates and let your agent know that you are doing so to give them an opportunity to be competitive. In this economy, every customer who is paying their bill has leverage...take advantage of that to negotiate your rate.
Re: Open Carry of Firearms
Post by Stan Darsh Wed Apr 22, 2009 10:08 am
Is there anyone out there that can explain to me why there is no problem with openly carrying a firearm but concealing a firearm is against the law? I really am curious because it doesn't make a lot of sense to me that we can own them and display them but not conceal them. If someone wanted to rob a store 1-their gun probably isn't even registered 2-they wouldn't wave it around in the air just because that is not against the law. I don't have a big opinion on conceal carry either way probably because I don't have any interest in owning a gun (and I have never been robbed at gunpoint). I have shot guns throughout my life but that doesn't mean I have a desire to pack one. But that also means I don't have any desire to stop others from owning/carrying. I just don't think concealed carry means anything to the people we are trying to keep the guns away from. So any impartial (yeah, right) opinions as to why open carry is ok when concealed carry is not?
Midwesterners concede! Los Angeles got one thing right.
Re: Earth Day News - Airport is County's Biggest Polluter

Reduced home prices or lower property taxes do not make up for pollution, crime or any other negative factors which make an area less desirable. What is the true cost of county airport impacts on Madison residents? When expansion of the Los Angeles airport was stopped by local citizens, the airport's owner, the city of LA, agreed to a $500 million program to offset its environmental and economic impacts on surrounding neighborhoods:
http://74.10.59.52/laane//pressroom/releases/lax041214.html
If the county airport reduces Madison home prices and property taxes in surrounding neighborhoods, does that mean the remainder of city residents need to pay more taxes to make up for the lost revenue, or do Madison residents get less city services due to the lost revenue?
