Many railed against Sarah Palin and Governor Doyle, while others channeled their creative diatribes into college-kid bashing and upholding State Street as the epicenter of the city. I play music full-time and despite the tough economy, I've managed to stay very busy. I'm very, very thankful for that.
That said, Madison clubs and gigs like the Art Fair don't make a lot of sense financially for those trying to play full time IMHO. While it is sad to see clubs go they don't support those trying to make a go as professional musicians. The club scene seems to be more for the hobbyist or part time player. (That is not a dig at players in that situation as there are obviously lots of very talented musicians in the area that are not full-time pros) Don't want to thread-hijack, but I often think if we really want to support our local scene, we should pay musicians a fair wage for their time and talent.
The couple of times I played the MoMo were not all that great. The club double booked me once and the second time they did a poor job of collecting covers at the door. Nice place to get a glass of wine though and it is never good to see a local business go under.
Sometimes an overhaul is in order (cough Dubya cough).

My thoughts: Even if he won a 3rd term it would be bad for office-seeking Democrats in Wisconsin. If he ran, it would obligate him to continue on the kamikaze course of "quick fixes" he's embraced in reaction to a near $7 billion dollar deficit. He would have to be there to take the blame for the fallout of the 2010 smoking ban on bars and restaurants and by doing so chain other Democrats to a losing argument (Democrats who support him in rural counties could be signing their own seats away). I've spent a lot of time in counties like these throughout my life and I've visited them recently - its a problem. My personal opinion as a former smoker visiting these communities is that it makes smokers dependent on neighboring Native casinos to retain your lifestyle while you watch your friends go out of business, to choose just one issue.
He's got the chance to go work for the white house and I think he should take it. A 34% approval rating means a majority of the people view him as making bad decisions for the people of Wisconsin. His 62.2 billion dollar budget is absolutely out of control - taking more money from the people of Wisconsin than any governor before him, and still spending more than he takes, in a time of need. Doesn't matter if its a Democrat or a Republican but only another governor could change the direction in this state. He's married to it. I would prefer an Independent or a Republican in his seat I admit, but even another Democrat would be a major improvement in light of Doyle's "Hail Mary" style of government.
Plaza burgers aren't our only little known secret.

There is a tiny park in the 2700 block of Stevens St - near the VA and UW Hospitals, but on the other side of University Ave. It is a favorite place for parents and kids, and it has TWO slides. One is straight, and the other a curvy one. Both of decent height. Also other playground equipment and a half court for b-ball.
Short and sweet, unlike the budget.

Downtown isn't just a quaint residential neighborhood, it's the economic and cultural heart of the region. Everyone has an interest in how it develops, and there must be a balance between the wishes of residents and the needs of the community as a whole, a concept anathema to CNI and its leadership.
Didn't your mother teach you to assume the best in people?

God you guys are a bunch of douchebags. Implying that the driver could have done something to prevent this horrible event is ridiculous. Yes I'm sure if a butterfly hadn't have flapped its wings in Argentina that morning this wouldn't have happened.
