Sconnie Bar might be dead!

Apparently the imminent demise of Blatz Liquor Cave is not the only Sconnie booze casualty this week. Sconnie Bar, which applied for a liquor license yesterday, will likely never materialize. Apparently its proposed capacity of 500 is well over the limit allowed by one of the provisions of the Alcohol License Density Ordinance.

The ALDO mandates that any new bar that replaces another bar cannot have a capacity that exceeds the former establishment. Unfortunately for Sconnie Bar, the bar it seeks to replace had a capacity of 175. Yikes.

According to Alcohol License Review Committee member Mark Woulf, the student rep on the panel, there is little the ALRC can do to help Sconnie out in this situation. Whereas the panel has waived certain parts of the ALDO in the past, the rule Sconnie is conflicting with is quite central to the ordinance's intent on reducing density in the area as well as within bars.
