Has anybody asked him? The junior senator-elect was credited with convincing the Senate GOP caucus to approve a ban on earmarks, but the media has not asked him any tough questions on the policy that actually affects the budget.
Does Johnson, who said throughout the campaign that the U.S. was at a "tipping point," believe Congressional Republicans should have accepted hundreds of billions in new spending in exchange for an extension of the Bush tax cuts?
As interesting (and unsurprising) as it was to see Johnson appoint a lobbyist as his chief of staff, it would be good to see the media discuss the policy implications of Johnson's election. The campaign is over, and the symbolic crap that dominated it --earmarks, career politicians, manufacturers, lawyers -- should give way to scrutiny of the important part of Johnson's record.
