Senate Democrats leave state to prevent vote on bill
on (1) Comment

This has gotten real.

Sen. Jon Erpenbach told WisPolitics this afternoon Senate Dems left the state in an attempt to force Republicans to negotiate a compromise to proposed changes to the bargaining rights of public employees.

Erpenbach would not disclose where he was or how many of the Dem senators were with him. But he said he believed all 14 were already out of state by early this afternoon.

This happened a few years back in Texas, where a number of Texas Democrats fled the state to Oklahoma in an attempt to stop a redistricting plan from going through. In that case then-House Majority Leader Tom DeLay ordered federal agencies, including the FBI, to investigate the whereabouts of various legislators. The House Ethics Committee later reprimanded DeLay for misusing federal agencies to investigate a state matter.

Who in Washington could play DeLay for Scott Walker? Jim Sensenbrenner?
