Chris Taylor tops six-way race in Wisconsin Assembly 48th District primary

Barring a successful write-in challenge, Wisconsin's 48th Assembly District has elected its new representative.

Chris Taylor, public policy director for Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, defeated five other Democrats in Tuesday's special primary. She faces no opposition in the August 9 general election for the seat vacated by Dane County Executive Joe Parisi.

Taylor defeated Vicky Selkowe, chief of staff to Rep. Cory Mason (D-Racine); Fred Arnold, retired economics instructor at Madison Area Technical College; Andy Heidt, ombudsman for the Dane County Department of Human Services; Bethany Ordaz, aide to Rep. JoCasta Zamarippa (D-Milwaukee) and Dave de Felice, chief of staff to Sen. Spencer Coggs (D-Milwaukee).

Out of 10,958 total ballots cast, Taylor received 3,383 votes, or 31.42% of the total.

The final totals for the race were:

  • Chris Taylor: 3,383 votes, or 31.42%
  • Vicky Selkowe: 2,452 votes, or 22.77%
  • Fred Arnold: 1,577 votes, or 13.99%
  • Andy Heidt: 1,190 votes, or 11.05%
  • Bethany Ordaz: 1,149 votes, or 10.67%
  • Dave de Felice: 1,086 votes, or 10.08%

The 48th Assembly District includes sections of the East and Far East sides of Madison, McFarland, Monona and the towns of Blooming Grove and Dunn.
