Madison kicks off a new season this week while the current one has yet to enjoy its final holiday hurrah. The calendar includes: a show by The Getaway Drivers and another edition for Jazz at Five; the opening of The Game Show Show by WhoopDeDoo Productions; and, the season opener for Wisconsin Badgers football.

The Getaway Drivers
High Noon Saloon, 6 pm
With tinges of Americana, roots-rock and folk, the Getaway Drivers seem to pick up at least a few new fans each time they play the High Noon. Revel and rejoice as they release a new EP, Black Dog Days, and read a review of the recording in this week's music column.

Wednesday 8.31
NOTEWORTHY: Millionaire playboy Dodi Fayed & Princess Diana of Wales killed in Paris car crash, 1997.
BIRTHDAYS: Irish rock star Van Morrison, 1945; Queen Rania of Jordan, 1970.

Jazz at Five
100 block of State Street, 5 pm
The lovely late-summer music series rolls on with Madison chanteuse Michelle DuVall, whose ensemble, Get Down Mr. Cat!, provides a lush setting for her crystalline vocals. With violinist Randy Sabien.

The Game Show Show
Pancake Cafe-Marquis Room, Fitchburg, 7:30 pm
WhoopDeDoo Productions presents another of its interactive theater experiences, this one a mock game show modeled on The Match Game. The panel features local celebrities, one per week. This week's is WMTV-Channel 15's Leigh Mills.
