Join us here for live coverage of the "Rally to Recall Walker" on the Capitol Square in downtown Madison on Saturday, November 19. This rally is a We Are Wisconsin kickoff event tied to the campaign to recall Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, which started on Tuesday, November 15.
Organized under the banner of United Wisconsin, the campaign officially started at midnight on Tuesday, November 15, and runs for a total of 60 days, during which time organizers will attempt to collect more than 540,208 total validated signatures from state voters to trigger a recall election. The group reports that some 50,000 signatures were gathered in the first 48 hours of the campaign.
Intended to build energy for the recall, the rally is an all-day event at the Wisconsin Capitol. The pre-rally program runs from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., and features live music performances by the Forward! Marching Band, German Art Students, Sean Michael Dargan, and the Solidarity Singers. Around the same time, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., the Madison branch of the Jobs Not Cuts coalition will be protesting at the Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce offices on 501 E. Washington Ave. The main rally is set to get started at 1 p.m., and is scheduled to run through 4 p.m. Organizers will be running shuttle buses from the Alliant Energy Center to the Capitol and back from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
The rally is also serving as a "Can Walker Food Drive" -- a holiday season effort to donate food to Wisconsinites in need, organized by the Teamsters Joint Council 39.
