Three World War II veterans from Madison sat down last week to reminisce about their experience during the war and a recent trip to Washington D.C. commemorating their service. Sam Fatsis, George Choles, and Ted Cappas have been friends for decades. They served in different units in the U.S. Army between 1942 and 1946, and made their lives in Madison after the war.
Last fall, Badger Honor Flight brought these veterans and other to D.C. to visit Arlington National Cemetery and tour the World War II Memorial and other monuments. The organization sponsors regular trips to Washington, D.C. with World War II veterans, and operates on volunteer power, donations, and fundraisers.
Sam, George, and Ted still tell their war stories with vigor.
In a roundtable discussion, they share their thoughts about the trip and what they appreciated about the experience, which ended with a welcome back to Madison.
The next Badger Honor Flight event is a benefit Hangar Swing Dance at Wisconsin Aviation on Friday, July 7.
