The days may be getting short, but the long nights ring with live music, as this week brings a Guitar for Veterans benefit concert, and more shows by Ida Jo with Scott Lamps, Paper Thick Walls, and Lucas Cates Band.


Monday 12.10

Get acquainted with new albums by two local singer-songwriters at this double-release party for Ida Jo's Uncharted and Lamps' Simple Man (see MadTracks).

Guitars for Veterans Benefit

This benefit for Guitars for Veterans, a Wisconsin-based music-therapy project for patients at VA hospitals, will feature lots of strumming, as well as a rock 'n' roll karaoke competition (6:30 pm) and a down-and-dirty dance contest (7:20 pm).

This quintet of South by Southwest alums builds swoon-worthy orchestral arrangements of alt-rock and indie-folk, incorporating instruments such as trumpets, fiddles and mandolins. With Parias Day.
