Doug Fine
Doug Fine, journalist and author, will make his Madison debut headlining the one-day sustainability celebration Isthmus Green Day. This sixth annual expo will be held on Saturday April 20, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at Monona Terrace. Admission is free and open to the public.
Fine has traveled to five continents, reporting from remote forests and war zones in Burma, Rwanda, Laos, Guatemala, and Tajikistan. He is a contributor to National Public Radio and Public Radio International. His work has appeared in the Washington Post, Wired, Salon, The Christian Science Monitor, Outside and more publications.
At Isthmus Green Day, Fine will share his experiences and answer the question, "Can a 'Digital Age' human live petroleum-free, without giving up any 'Digital Age' comforts?" He'll also discuss the burgeoning legal cannabis industry and how that "new green economy" is shaping our country.
Here's what others have said about Fine's most recent books, Farewell, My Subaru and Too High To Fail:
"Fine is a... storyteller in the mold of... Douglas Adams. If you're a fan of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy-style humor -- and also looking to find out how to raise your own livestock to feed your ice-cream fetish -- Farewell, My Subaru may prove a vital tool." -- Washington Post
"Fine examines how the American people have borne the massive economic and social expenditures of the failed Drug War, which is 'as unconscionably wrong for America as segregation and DDT.' A captivating, solidly documented work rendered with wit and humor." -- Kirkus (Starred Review)
