ALRC to discuss licenses for the new Underground Kitchen, Chi, Ancora Coffee

The Madison Alcohol License Review Committee will meet Wednesday, May 22, at 5:30 p.m. As detailed in its agenda (PDF), here are some of the new establishments seeking licenses and other key orders of business.

A spate of existing restaurants are requesting permission to create or expand outdoor eating areas. Café Costa Rica, 1133 Williamson St. (sidewalk seating and a side balcony off second-floor dining area); Sunprint on the Square, 10 W. Mifflin St. (10-person sidewalk café); and Cheba Hut, 453 W. Gilman St. (to expand current outdoor seating area).

Underground Food Collective is requesting a transfer of its license from the former Underground Kitchen, 127 E. Mifflin, to a new version of the restaurant to be located next to the Underground Butcher (811 Williamson) at 809 Williamson. The application states that breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served and a sample menu includes a meat board and a vegetable board, crudités, ricotta gnocchi, brick chicken and roasted meats. Capacity for the new restaurant is listed as 60.

Chi, the new restaurant and bar stepping into the troubled T. Sushi space, 301 W. Johnson St., will be applying for a new license.

As previously reported, the downtown Ancora Coffee, 112 King St., will be applying for a license to serve local beers, wines, and liquor-infused coffee drinks.

The Highland Club, a new concern in the InnTowner hotel, 2424 University Avenue, is applying for a license.

Other applicants include Nam's Noodles, 1336 Regent St., both Madison Applebee's (East and West), and Tienda Los Gemelos, 6713 Odana Rd.
