Update: The Heartland Beer Dinner has been canceled. Anybody who purchased tickets will be refunded.
If you're looking forward to the Isthmus Beer & Cheese Fest, here's an opportunity to whet your appetite for the weekend. Chef Patrick Deptula and Robin Shepard are presenting the Heartland Beer Dinner at the Sheraton Madison Hotel on Friday, Jan. 17. Tickets are now on sale for the dinner, as well as for an early evening tour of Wisconsin Brewing Company in Verona, hosted by Hop Head Beer Tours.
Served at the Heartland Grill, the dinner starts at 7:30 p.m. A reservation can include the brewery tour, with the Hop Head beer shuttle departing from the Sheraton at 5:30 p.m. and returning from Verona at 7 p.m., just in time for the dinner. Tickets are $70 for the dinner, or $80 for the dinner and tour. You must be 21 or older to attend.
Robin Shepard, who writes the popular Beer Here reviews and reports on brewery news for Isthmus, is author of Wisconsin's Best Breweries and Brewpubs: Searching for the Perfect Pint. He is collaborating with Chef James Deptula to develop a five-course menu pairing delicious plates with craft brews. Details about the menu and pairings will be forthcoming.
Wisconsin Brewing Company is also hosting a pre-festival open brewhouse from 3-9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17. The celebration at the new brewery will feature prizes that include a pair of Isthmus Beer & Cheese Fest tickets, private brewery tour packages, and an opportunity to brew with brewmaster Kirby Nelson. The brewery is at 1079 American Way in Verona.
