Make Music Madison recruiting performers and venues for June 2014 fest

Make Music Madison, a citywide celebration of song slated for June 21, has started accepting registration materials from potential performers and performance venues. Sign-up takes place until May 15, through a locally produced "matchmaking" program that pairs musicians with places to play. Volunteers may also register through the program.

The event debuted in 2013, with 280 concerts featuring more than 200 musicians and 100 venues. The 2014 edition will run from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The organizers anticipate that local businesses, community centers and homes will host outdoor concerts for the event. They'd also like a broad cross-section of the community to show off a variety of musical styles.

"Music is whatever live sound an individual or group wishes to produce, and whatever the hosting space accepts," executive director Michael Rothschild stated in a news release.

Like last year, Make Music Madison is inspired by Fête de la Musique, a day of live music that occurs in Paris each year. Since the Parisian event began in 1982, similar festivities have happened in more than 700 other cities, including New York and Los Angeles.
