Today's image is titled MG n E 01 and was photographed by Mark Sadowski.

Sadowski describes the picture on his photoblog: "The sun was on its way to setting and was creating an interesting play with light against the quickly moving clouds. This coupled with this view of the MG&E power plant's smoke stacks made for a very interesting shot. The billowing smoke looked so delicate and defined compared to the almost blurry looking clouds behind." The coal-burning plant on the near east side of Madison, named the Blount Generating Station, is well known for its plumes of emissions, particularly in the wintertime. Indeed, one of the most ubiquitous postcards for Madison depicts the plant billowing clouds of emissions in well below zero conditions. The plant to switch to natural gas by the end of 2011.
