Madison Snaps: January 8, 2007
Thin Ice
Credit:Joan Wildman

Today's image is titled Thin Ice and was photographed by Joan Wildman.

As photographed on Jan. 5, this image depicts the water filling the lagoon between Lake Mendota and Warner Park on the north side of Madison. Like nearly every other sizeable body of water in the region, it is currently in a liquid form. There was ice in the lagoon as recently as the middle of December, though, following a late autumn cold snap. This can be seen in a photo taken by Wildman, which depicts the ice beneath the Warner Park footbridge. Temperatures in south-central Wisconsin are expected to remain above average for at least another week, so it looks like the big lakes may remain open through the latest point in recorded history.

There is a larger version of the photo in the gallery at right.
