Movie fans following the construction of the new Sundance Cinemas 608 at Hilldale Mall have only a couple of months more to wait. The public opening is Friday, May 11, with three grand-opening celebration benefits from May 6 to 8.
Sundance Cinemas 608 promises "the finest in specialized film programming, including the best in independent and foreign language film, a custom proprietary pre-show, and no annoying advertisements." The theater will actually be the first in Sundance's national "movie theater circuit." Operated by the Sundance Kabuki in San Francisco, whose opening date has been pushed back to summer.
The three grand-opening celebrations slated for the week before the theater's public unveiling will feature a reception and the Madison premiere of a new release. Each will serve as a benefit for a different local organization: the Wisconsin River Alliance (Monday, May 7) and fr FAQ for Sundance 608.
