So, we made it. It took 24 hours longer than expected due to storms and normal airport hell, but we have arrived in Holland. Our delay meant no real sleep for 36 hours and then off to the first show last night. We picked up a rental car and dove into downtown Amsterdam traffic with red eyes and bright sunshine and bicycles and trains everywhere. The first few moments were extreme sensory overload, so much to look at while trying not to run someone over or drive into a canal.
The show last night was in Eindhoven and went really well. Lots of people out on a gorgeous night. As expected, folks wanted to talk about George W. As I had said earlier, it's my third Europe tour in four years, so our war status is always a topic of conversation. I'm not particularly political, but I'm always surprised how educated the Europeans are on American politics. So, small beers were drunk, songs were sung, and we got to share the bill with some friends of mine from Holland, a band call T-99. Great band.
We're up early today and driving six hours to Hamburg to do a TV show taping to promote our next show in Germany. We slept that first real sleep last night, so hopefully the jet lag and small beer hangover will go away soon. Hamburg is Beatle history city, so were psyched to go see the original Star Club where they cut their musical teeth. I love Hamburg, it's an ancient port city that's kind of Europe's version of New Orleans and Vegas.
More soon.
