Today's image is titled It takes a crane to load a pier and was photographed by Karen Darcy.

"Madison's only public diving platform (in a lake) being loaded into the water at B.B. Clarke Beach," is how Darcy describes this photo taken on Thursday, June 14. "Let the summer fun begin!"

Madison's lakeside beaches and lifeguard services officially opened for the season June 14, with hours from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for B.B. Clarke, Olbrich, Tenney, and Vilas Park beaches, and from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. for Bernie's, Esther, James Madison, Olin, Spring Harbor and Warner beaches. More details from the city's parks division:

Olbrich, B.B. Clarke, Vilas and Tenney Park beaches have showers, changing rooms and concessions available. B.B. Clarke Beach has a diving platform.

Conditions of the beaches change often. The Health Department monitors the weekly condition and bacteria count at the beaches.
These conditions are regularly updated online at City of Madison Beaches, which tracks the open or closed status of the 14 public beaches around town.
