Dodge the drops to pick up your Annual Manual in this week's Isthmus

What can you find in this week's Isthmus? Highlights from the latest issue follow:

  • The return of UW-Madison students always commences a new cycle in the city's cultural life. This week, music writer Rich Albertoni provides an annotated guide to the local music scene for the upcoming fall season.
  • Missing from the guest list will be the thousands of Wisconsin prisoners who writer Jason Shepard reports are caught up in a barely functioning parole and probation system. Its motto: Release no prisoner ahead of his time.
  • Here's a story we bet you've never heard about: The Uriel Pharmacy, which grows anthroposophic remedies on a farm near Whitewater. What exactly does "anthroposophic" mean? Well, you have to read Linda Falkenstein's story to find out.
  • You'll learn a lot more by perusing our yearly guide to Madison, The Annual Manual, which is inserted in this week's paper. Accept no substitutes! You'll find no better blueprint to our community.
  • And lastly, in this week's issue, you'll find out what our film critic Kent Williams thinks of Superbad, why Bangles lead singer Susanna Hoffs doesn't listen to Top 40 radio, why Mayor Dave tossed in the towel on streetcars, and why the water levels of the Yahara lakes are one contentious issue.
