When the White House announced earlier today that President Obama is visiting Wisconsin later this month, many probably had the reaction -- again? >More GOP aims to put whammy on Tammy Baldwin
Chad Lee has the edge, but both he and Peter Theron have a tough task

Peter Theron thinks Republicans have reasons to feel good about their fortunes in Wisconsin's 2nd Congressional District. "David Obey and Jim Doyle both chose to retire rather than run for reelection," says Theron, one of two GOP candidates for the seat, explaining his optimism. "The polling across the state shows Republicans surging on the generic ballot.... All of these indicators suggest that this year will be different from previous years." >More Salvation Army of Dane County to change admission policy for Warming House
Madison family shelter has been too popular, leading to problems

The Salvation Army is changing its policy for Warming House, a last resort overnight shelter for families, to no longer accept drop ins. The shelter, located on 630 E. Primary pits active incumbent against challenger who vows to do more

Dan Bohrod has his work cut out for him. For starters, he's running against a Democratic incumbent in the Sept. 14 primary for a position, state treasurer, that most people know nothing about. Dane County has renegotiated buying land for the Ice Age Trail, saving more than half a million over last year’s asking price. The Board of Supervisors will introduce a motion at Thursday's meeting to buy 131 acres in Cross Plains from Carter Hudson LLC at $20,000 an acre or a total of $2.6 million. >More Wisconsin Attorney General race between Hassett and Van Hollen pivots on role of office
Both partisan candidates claim to be the most nonpartisan

There's a reason state attorney general is an elected partisan position: However much anyone tries to deny it, political ideology is key to how the job gets done. But oh, how they try to deny it. >More Wisconsin Lt. Gov. rivals: 'I'd be the best running mate'

All four Lt. Governor candidates who gathered at a forum Wednesday night consider themselves progressives; all are for gay marriage and against the state constitutional ban on it passed in 2006; and all support improving racial disparity gaps and keeping the UW System a priority. >More
