Dumb unwritten rules trigger the 'brawl' between the Brewers and Pirates

The Brewers are hot and have claimed the early lead in the National League Central. But the only thing anyone wanted to discuss after Sunday's game with Pittsburgh was the "brawl" ignited by Milwaukee's Carlos Gomez, who violated hidebound baseball protocol in the third inning by flipping his bat and pausing a beat too long to inspect a deep line drive he soon converted to a triple. >More
The Milwaukee Bucks' chronic wasting disease

Because you certainly lost any faint trace of interest in the Milwaukee Bucks months (or years) ago, I am compelled to report that their season has ended. They fashioned the worst year in franchise history and did it with style, erasing a 20-62 effort in 1994 with a six-month spree of steaming garbage time that couldn't have been much worse. >More
Buck up, Bucky: Wisconsin men's basketball is looking great for 2014-15 season

Basketball is a cruel game. Shit happens. The big shots fall your way one weekend; the next week they don't. Feel free to ladle on your own consoling clich├ęs. Once the sting has passed from Saturday's loss to Kentucky in the national semifinals, the point will remain that the UW men's basketball team had maybe its best season in program history, and next year could be better yet. >More
Don't be the guy who says that about the Final Four

Final Four week! No basketball for almost six full days, and little for fans to do except smile while the national press explains how wonderful the Badgers are. Feels great, yes? Do your coworkers a favor and keep those warm feelings going. Don't be the guy who bores the entire office by spouting the following dumb crap: >More
I want to believe in the Milwaukee Brewers

I want to believe in the Milwaukee Brewers this year. I really do. Having a competitive baseball team to follow every day provides a great mental trick for making the summer longer than it really is, and in Wisconsin we need as many such illusions as we can get. >More
 Respect the Badgers in March

March Madness has officially busted out all over. The Wisconsin men's basketball team opens the NCAA tournament today in Milwaukee, the UW men's hockey team is in St. Paul trying to nail down a high seed for its own NCAA opener next weekend, and the women's hockey team is in Connecticut after earning a seventh Frozen Four in nine years. It could be a cool weekend for Badgers fans. >More
Wisconsin's home-state advantage in March Madness

Conference tournament week is one of the most frantic times in college basketball each year and therefore one of the best. If your team is on the proverbial bubble of making the NCAA tournament versus settling for the who-cares NIT, you've already worked through all the conference brackets to wrangle the best scenarios for your heroes and hate on teams you've barely noticed all season. >More
Get a grip on Wisconsin Badgers wrestling

As you may be aware, wrestling has seen better times. The sport has lost more than half its Division I college teams since the 1970s and is down to fewer than 80 today. In February 2013, the International Olympic Committee voted to remove wrestling as a core sport of the summer games, but reinstated it seven months later after a backlash. >More
 At long last Bob Uecker

As boys growing up in Little Rock, my brothers and I could play baseball most of the year in the end of our cul-de-sac. And thus we did. >More
 Wisconsin Badgers women's hoops: Fail

You have to wonder what's happened to the Wisconsin women's basketball program. The team hasn't enjoyed much success since Jane Albright was the coach, and that was more than a decade ago. A popular trope back then held that UW had advanced as far as it could under Albright and needed a new coach to reach the next level of success. >More
